Dr. Fidel Castro Ruz, sent a letter to H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations, informing that in response to his appeal to the International community made in his statements of September 26 and October 1 before the General Assembly, the Government of the Republic of Cuba has made the decision to adhere to the existing twelve legal instruments related to the prevention and suppression of terrorism, three of which Cuba has already approved and ratified. The letter addressed by President Fidel Castro also indicates that to expedite the corresponding procedures, tomorrow, Thursday, October 4, the Government will appeal to the National Assembly of People's Power that has been convened for a special session to pay homage to the victims of terrorism in our country, to ask for ratification of our adherence to the nine legal instruments that are in the process of approval and ratification. The said homage is being paid on the 25th anniversary of the terrorist act that, in the proximity of Barbados, blew up in mid flight a Cubana Airline aircraft taking the lives of 73 passengers on board. Likewise the letter of President Fidel Castro reaffirms that our country shall continue its efforts towards the conclusion of a general and comprehensive agreement against terrorism that would truly define such an obnoxious practice and allow the international community to face up to it in an efficient, urgent and lasting way, with the full support of the world public opinion and without unnecessary, useless and dangerous wars that multiply violence and hatred amon9 the peoples. Cuba once again proves with specific actions its strong determination to fight terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, as well as its full willingness to promote international cooperation to launch effective global actions, in accordance with International Law, the Charter of the United Nations and the relevant international conventions, based on the extraordinary power of consensus and the sovereign and combined will of all States.
