Special RADIO HAVANA CUBA?S VIEWPOINT Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit CUBANEWS FROM RADIO HAVANA CUBA E-mail: rhc@radiohc.org http://www.radiohc.org RADIO HAVANA CUBA4S VIEWPOINT Tuesday, 4 January 2000 The new and dangerous provocation carried out by a pirate aircraft that took off from the Opalocka Air Force Base in Florida and violated Cuban territorial airspace has once again called into question Washington's ability to control these kinds of actions. The event took place on Saturday, January 1st, and was closely monitored by Cuban anti-aircraft defense. This time, there could be no doubt that the provocation occurred within Cuban airspace and not over international waters as U.S. authorities alleged in February 1996, when two aircraft of the counterrevolutionary organization "Brothers to the Rescue" were shot down by the Cuban Air Force. The author of this latest incident was a Vietnamese-born U.S. citizen and also a former pilot of South Vietnam's air force. The U.S. war of aggression and South Vietnamese puppet troops killed some four million people during the long war waged against that Southeast Asian nation. It is not even worth repeating the absurd and crazy text of the tens of thousands of leaflets dropped from the aircraft over the Cuban capital on Saturday by this Vietnamese pilot. However, it is very curious that for the first time in 41 years, the U.S. State Department quickly disapproved of the action which was certainly not the first and who knows if it will be the last of its kind against Cuba. No one should be surprised if it is revealed someday that those who paid for this new violation of Cuban airspace were the same gangsters and terrorists of the so-called Cuban-American National Foundation. They have made no comment, but they have obviously been angered by huge and constant mass demonstrations in Cuba demanding the return of six-year-old Elian Gonzalez, illegally held in Miami against his father's wishes. Such terrorist actions do not frighten the Cuban people, whose fight will continue until Washington changes its anti-Cuba policy and steps are finally taken toward a fair and rational normalization of bilateral relations. -30- [c] 1999, Radio Habana Cuba All rights reserved Articles cannot be reproduced, reprinted or published in any system without the consent of RHC.
