During the two-day meeting, delegates discussed the effects of globalization in the health sector, cooperation among Ibero-American nations and strategies to guarantee health for all in the third millenium. Tuesday evening, the Ibero-American health ministers and representatives approved a final declaration, which will be submitted to the 9th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, slated for next month in Havana. U.S. UNIVERSITY STUDENTS CONCLUDE VISIT TO CUBA Havana, October 19(RHC)-- A group of U.S. university students have ended a visit to Cuba after getting a first-hand look at life on the island. The tour was sponsored by the International Training Institute. In statements to reporters, one of the students, Molly Keefe, said that her visit helped her to clearly see the lies the U.S. mass media says about Cuba. The director of the academic program, Ann Straight, said that the 12 U.S. students got a first-hand look at the development of the Cuban Revolution, especially the transformations that the island has had to carry out due to the country's economic crisis, known as the Special Period. According to the student leader, the International Training Institute is a non-governmental organization that has representatives from 40 countries and promotes 55 different study programs in coordination with public or private universities in the United States. IBERO-AMERICAN RADIO BROADCASTERS MEETING UNDERWAY IN HAVANA Havana, October 19(RHC)-- The Third Ibero-American Radio Broadcasters Meeting opened Tuesday morning at Havana's Capitol building. Radio specialists from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Martinique, Panama and the Dominican Republic are taking part in the meeting, along with representatives from the World Association of Community Radio, AMARC. Cuban experts and regional representatives will offer lectures and workshops during the three-day meeting. TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTER ARRIVES IN HAVANA TOMORROW Havana, October 19(RHC)-- Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem will arrive in Cuba tomorrow, Wednesday, to begin an official visit as part of exchanges that characterize bilateral relations between both nations. During his stay on the island, the Turkish foreign minister will meet with his Cuban counterpart, Felipe Perez Roque, as well as other government officials, and visit places of economic, social and cultural interest. LATIN AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN STUDENT ORGANIZATION SLATED TO MEET IN THE CUBAN CAPITAL Havana, October 19(RHC)-- The 12th Congress of the Latin American and Caribbean Continental Organization of Students --OCLAE-- will take place in Havana in April next year. According to the organization's president, Yosvany Diaz, the main goal of the event is to strengthen the unity of the Latin American students' movement and to design a common strategy to fight neo-liberalism. Some 5000 students from the region, including 1000 Cubans and 300 young people from the Latin American School of Medicine, are expected to attend the meeting. They will exchange experiences and debate issues such as neo-liberalism and its negative effects on education, the role of students in Latin America and the regional integration process. The event will also be attended by representatives of regional, national and international institutions, as well as by non-governmental organizations and other groups.
