With the theme "Prospects for Iberoamerican Agriculture in a New Millennium," the encounter will bring together ministers and deputy ministers of agriculture, as well as business people and representatives from farm organizations and other international and regional institutions. Also on hand for the preparatory meeting will be Jacques Diouf and Carlos Aquino, General Directors of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and the Inter- American Institute for Agricultural Cooperation, respectively. Jean Jacques, Head of the Caribbean Division of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, also plans to attend next week's meeting in Havana. The purpose of this preparatory meeting is that participants adopt a common position based on unity, solidarity and cooperation to face agricultural challenges on the threshold of a new millennium. While here in Havana, delegates and guests to this Iberoamerican Forum on Agriculture will also attend the main ceremony on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the First Agrarian Reform Law, held on May 17th. GERMAN BUSINESS EXECUTIVES VISIT CUBA Havana, May 11(RHC)-- A delegation from the German Industrial Federation and the Latin American Association of Private Enterprise is currently in Cuba, carrying out a packed agenda of activities which include meetings with high-ranking Cuban officials from various economic sectors. The visiting delegation is headed by Olaf Henkel, the President of the German Industrial Federation and includes 50 business executives interested in exploring areas to invest on the island. The visit is evidence of a growing interest on the part of the German business community in exploring ways to increase bilateral economic cooperation with the Caribbean island. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TOURISM LEGISLATION GETS UNDERWAY IN HAVANA Havana, May 11(RHC)-- An International Conference on Tourism Legislation opened on Tuesday in Havana. Organized by the Union of Cuban Jurists and the Spanish Association of Judges and Magistrates, the international conference brings together 130 judges and magistrates from Spain, a similar number of Cuban jurists and some 20 lawyers from Latin America. This encounter is the second meeting on tourism legislation related to Cuban societies of economic, financial and mercantile laws. CUBA AND DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF KOREA SIGN NEW AGREEMENTS ON BILATERAL ECONOMIC COOPERATION Pyongyang, May 11(RHC)-- Cuba and the Democratic Republic of Korea have signed the protocol of the 19th Commission on Economic and Technical Cooperation as well as an agreement on bilateral trade for 1999. The agreements were signed by the Foreign Trade Minister of the Democratic Republic of Korea, Kang Yong Mo, and his Cuban counterpart Ricardo Cabrisas. Both dignitaries discussed future prospects for bilateral cooperation and trade. CUBA DESIGNATES NEW AMBASSADOR TO UGANDA Havana, May 11(RHC)-- The Cuban Council of State has named Angel Rolando Gallardo Fernandez as the island's new Ambassador to Uganda. At the time of his designation, Gallardo Fernandez served as an official for the Foreign Relations Office of the Cuban Communist Party's Central Committee. CUBA'S NATIONAL BALLET COMPANY PERFORMS IN SPAIN Madrid, May 11(RHC)-- A new choreography of Gissele, performed by the Cuban National Ballet Company at the Arriaga Theatre in Bilbao, generated deafening applause and words of praise from dance critics. The press referred to the high artistic level of the Cuban ballet dancers. The Cuban National Ballet Company is currently on a European tour.
