TARGET YUGOSLAVIA: NATO's WAR OF AGGRESSION / Monday, 14 June 1999 Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit CUBANEWS FROM RADIO HAVANA CUBA E-mail: rhc@radiohc.org http://www.radiohc.org TARGET YUGOSLAVIA: NATO's WAR OF AGGRESSION Monday, 14 June 1999 Radio Havana Cuba presents its coverage of the U.S.-led NATO aggression against Yugoslavia. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- MOSCOW AND BRUSSELS STILL UNABLE TO AGREE ON DEPLOYMENT OF RUSSIAN TROOPS IN KOSOVO Following three days of tense confrontations between Russian troops and NATO forces in Kosovo, Moscow does not seem to be willing to back-down without concessions. The commander of the 200 Russian paratroopers that took control of the airport in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, stated that he was awaiting orders to re-enforce Russia's position. On Sunday, U.S. Under Secretary of State Strobe Talbott left Moscow after another failure in talks concerning Russia's role in the so-called peace keeping force. The Russians want their own sector in Kosovo and continue insisting that their troops will not be under NATO command. NATO is opposed to both demands, though Talbott said Sunday that the military alliance could offer some type of compromise. Meanwhile, Russia has accused NATO of doing nothing to disarm the Kosovo Liberation Army -- threatening to take the issue to the UN Security Council. According to Moscow, the armed separatists have entered Kosovo practically on the shoulders of NATO troops. Separatist attacks in several regions of Kosovo have already claimed the lives of Serb soldiers, police and civilians, while several kidnappings of Serbs have also been reported. NATO deployment in Kosovo has been accompanied by numerous cases of violence, including the deaths of three German journalists, shot down by unidentified assailants. Several thousand Kosovar refugees who arrived in Kosovo together with a German battalion, reportedly attempted to lynch Serb border guards. Thousands of Serbs are fleeing Kosovo in fear of reprisals. -30- [c] 1999, Radio Habana Cuba All rights reserved Articles cannot be reproduced, reprinted or published in any system without the consent of RHC.
