Media outlets are quoting U.S. experts and Yugoslavians opposed to the Milosevic government who assert that following five weeks of air strikes, the damage caused is worse than during World War II. According to The Washington Times, 500,000 Yugoslavians have lost their jobs with the destruction of the oil and chemical industries and numerous factories, while the per capita Gross National Product has fallen by more than half. With the country's electricity, telecommunications and transportation systems in ruins, experts believe that recuperation following the attacks will be extremely difficult due to the immense quantity of resources needed and lack of incentives for private investors. -30- [c] 1999, Radio Habana Cuba All rights reserved Articles cannot be reproduced, reprinted or published in any system without the consent of RHC.
