Following the welcoming ceremony, the two leaders began official talks. Earlier in the morning, the Gambian leader visited the Africa House in Old Havana. During his visit, which will run through Friday, President Yahya Jammeh will also tour Havana's Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital and the Latin American Medical School, among other places of cultural and historic interest. NATIONAL RECYCLING FESTIVAL UNDERWAY Havana, April 6(RHC)-- A national festival to collect recyclable materials, sponsored by the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), is underway on the island to commemorate the 38th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs invasion. The recycling campaign began on the first of the month with a offensive by the CDR block organizations to collect paper, cardboard, plastic and other re-useable materials. The national festival, which ends April 17th, will culminate with an activity in Matanzas province, including cultural and recreational activities. Special awards will be given to the provinces that have collected the most recyclable materials as well as the family that contributed the most in their community. CUBANA AIRLINES INAUGURATES DIRECT FLIGHTS BETWEEN TORONTO AND CIENFUEGOS Havana, April 6(RHC)-- On Monday, Cubana Airlines inaugurated direct flights between Toronto and the central Cuban city of Cienfuegos. Cuba's national airlines will fly to the Canadian city three times a week with a capacity for 168 passengers and room for a variety of cargo. Cubana sales representative Olga Nunez told the daily Granma newspaper that the new flights are in response to the growing interest in Cuba by Canadian tourists. CATERERS AT VARADERO'S JUAN GUALBERTO GOMEZ AIRPORT AWARDED FOR OUTSTANDING WORK Matanzas, April 6(RHC)-- Workers at Varadero's Juan Gualberto Gomez Airport catering enterprise have received the National Vanguard Banner for their outstanding work. The General Secretary of Matanzas' Communist Party, Yadira Garcia, and the President of the Cuban Civil Aeronautics Institute, Rogelio Acevedo, awarded the workers with the 60th anniversary of the Confederation of Cuban Workers Medal and a diploma for the founding members of the catering business. The company prepares hot and cold meals for the passengers and crew members of national and international flights. INDIAN DELEGATION IN CUBA ON WORKING VISIT Havana, April 6(RHC)-- The 4th Session of the Joint Cuba-India Commission for Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation was inaugurated on Monday at Havana's Capitol building. Heading the Indian delegation is Foreign Minster Vasundhara Raje, who met with Cuba's Science, Technology and Environment Minister, Rosa Elena Simeon. The two government officials discussed bilateral issues. The Indian foreign minister will also meet with other high- ranking Cuban officials and is scheduled to visit scientific, economic and historic places of interest -- among them the Mahatma Ghandi Memorial, located in Havana's municipality of Playa.
