As customary each year, the main rally and march will take place at Havana's Jose Marti Plaza de la Revolucion. Nearly 800 trade union leaders from around the world have confirmed their participation in Saturday's march and many of already begun arriving in Havana. Meanwhile, preparations are also underway for marches and rallies in cities and towns across the island. A number of activities are scheduled to take place during this week, leading up to International Worker's Day. An exhibition of paintings by artist Orlando Perera Rojas was inaugurated on Tuesday in the Cuban capital. The exhibit, called "May First," will run through next week at the main offices of the Confederation of Cuban Workers, the CTC. Tomorrow, Wednesday, the Cuban Historical Institute will host the Third International May First Encounter, where the book entitled "Fidel: Workers and the Labor Movement" will be launched. REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON THE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF AIDS Havana, April 27(RHC)-- A regional workshop on the Prevention and Treatment of AIDS continued on Tuesday in Havana with a discussion of the results of a socio-cultural study conducted in three of the island's provinces. The research -- carried out in urban and rural areas of Havana, Holguin and Villa Clara -- was aimed at studying the habits and lifestyles of young people between the ages of 15 and 24. Similar studies were conducted in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic and their results were also discussed during the meeting, which included an exchange of information and proposals on the present situation and future prospects in the fight against AIDS. Specialists from the Bahamas, Bermuda, El Salvador, Mexico, Haiti, Guatemala, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago as well as non-governmental organizations and groups of the United Nations are taking part in the workshop, which for the first time will deal with cultural aspects in the prevention of AIDS. International health agencies reveal that 33.4 million people around the world live with the HIV virus or AIDS and that 95 percent live in underdeveloped countries. More than 14 million people have died as a result of AIDS. HIGH-RANKING BRITISH FOREIGN MINISTRY OFFICIAL VISITS THE ISLAND Havana, April 27(RHC)-- The head of the Latin American and Caribbean Department and Commonwealth Office of Britain's Foreign Ministry, Henry Hogger, continues his visit to Cuba. Following a meeting with Cuba's Deputy Foreign Minister Isabel Allende, the British official said that his visit is aimed at increasing bilateral understanding. On Friday, Henry Hogger is scheduled to tour the Carlos J. Finlay Institute, where he get a first-hand look at the island's scientific advances in the field of medicine. The high-ranking British official will also visit Varadero Beach Resort in Matanzas province. PRESIDENT OF CUBAN PARLIAMENT CONTINUES VISIT TO BRITAIN Havana, April 27(RHC)-- The President of the Cuban Parliament, Ricardo Alarcon -- currently on an official visit to London -- took part Tuesday in the first Seminar on British Democracy in London. Alarcon, who is heading a Cuban parliamentary delegation, talked about democracy and the electoral system in Cuba, among other issues. The Cuban official arrived in London on Sunday at the invitation of the British Parliament and Foreign Ministry. Tomorrow, Wednesday, the Cuban parliamentary delegation is scheduled to travel to Scotland on the occasion of the first parliamentary elections in that region. CONFEDERATION OF CUBAN WORKERS AWARDS CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY MEMBER WITH LAZARO PENA ORDER Havana, April 27(RHC)-- The Confederation of Cuban Workers, the CTC, awarded China's Communist Party Political Bureau member Wei Jianxing with the Lazaro Pena Order -- the CTC's highest distinction. The Chinese leader met with the General Secretary of the CTC, Pedro Ross Leal, and with Cuban Communist Party Political Bureau member Jose Ramon Balaguer. Wei Jianxing arrived in Havana on Monday for a working visit and has toured places of scientific and cultural interest.
