The march began at the Monument to Antonio Maceo and ended at the Ernesto Che Guevara Plaza, where the remains of the legendary guerrilla fighter, together with those who fought with him in Bolivia, lie in rest. The main activity took place at the Marta Abreu University in Santa Clara, where Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara established his headquarters during the struggle against the Batista dictatorship and later was given the title of Honoris Causa in Education. Some 2000 junior high school students became members of Cuba's Young Communist League during activities commemorating the births of both Che and Maceo over the weekend. GENERAL SECRETARY OF HUNGARY'S ACADEMY OF SCIENCE VISITS THE ISLAND Havana, June 15(RHC)-- The General Secretary of Hungary's Academy of Science, Laszlo Kevichky, is on an official visit to Cuba with the objective of strengthening cooperation between the institution and its Cuban counterpart. In statements to journalists in Havana, the Hungarian official pointed out that his visit will help re-vitalize the historical ties between both institutions. During his stay in the Cuban capital, the general secretary of the Hungarian Academy of Science will tour numerous scientific installations. 8th CUBA-MEXICO BILATERAL MEETING SET FOR LATER THIS MONTH Mexico City, June 15(RHC)-- The 8th Cuba-Mexico Bilateral Meeting will take place the 23rd and 24th of this month in Havana in order to analyze the general state of bilateral relations between the two countries. Cuba's ambassador to Mexico, Abelardo Curbelo, told reporters that the meeting will allow an evaluation of the development of economic, scientific, technical, cultural and educational ties as well as commercial and financial relations. Pointing to the historic relations between Mexico and Cuba, Curbelo said that Cuba's Foreign Minister Roberto Robaina and his Mexican counterpart Rosario Green will discuss issues of mutual interest. This will be Rosario Green's first visit to Havana as Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Relations, during which she will meet with Cuban government officials. INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC EVENT SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE IN HAVANA NEXT MONTH Havana, June 15(RHC)-- Nearly 500 economic experts from Latin America, Europe and Asia will participate in an international economic event -- Economy '98 -- from July 1st to the 3rd in Havana. The event will provide an opportunity to exchange views on solutions to the economic problems of the region. There will also be a special session on Cuban business opportunities. The international event is sponsored by the Association of Cuban Economists and Latin America and the Caribbean. WOMEN FROM AROUND THE WORLD SLATED TO MEET IN BEIJING Beijing, June 15 (RHC)-- A seminar sponsored by the Federation of Chinese Women will take place in Beijing with the participation of 150 foreign delegates, among them the President of the Federation of Cuban Women, Vilma Espin. Organizers report that participants will analyze the advances and difficulties of the Action Plan which was approved during the 4th World Women's Conference in China in 1995. The Chinese women's organization praised the participation of the Cuban delegation at the event and the bilateral relations between both nations. 10th CONFERENCE OF NORTH AMERICAN AND CUBAN PHILOSOPHERS AND SOCIAL SCIENTISTS OPENS IN THE CUBAN CAPITAL Havana, June 15(RHC)-- The 10th Conference of North American and Cuban Philosophers and Social Scientists is underway in the Cuban capital. The conference will run through Friday with the participation of 60 professors from various U.S. universities. Participants will discuss a wide range of issues related to contemporary topics such as neo-liberalism, globalization and colonialism.
