The Argentinean-born woman fought in Bolivia with Ernesto Che Guevara and was killed by CIA-trained Bolivian troops in August 1967. Her remains were found several months ago by a team of Cuban, Argentinean and Bolivian anthropologists. The remains of Tania and the other Bolivian, Peruvian and Cuban internationalist fighters will soon be taken to Santa Clara, located in central Cuba, and laid to rest at the Ernesto Che Guevara Mausoleum. THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AND CUBA TO SIGN COOPERATION AGREEMENTS Havana, December 14 (RHC)-- The Dominican Republic and Cuba will sign cooperation agreements in various sectors on Tuesday in Santo Domingo. After signing the accords, representatives from the two countries will open sessions of the Cuba-Dominican Joint Commissions in which they will discuss economic cooperation in the fields of education, health, sports, technology, trade, transportation and promotion of investments. Before leaving for the Dominican Republic, Cuban Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation Minister, Ibrahim Ferradaz, said that during his trip he would meet with Dominican business executives and take a first hand look at the Caribbean country's free trade zones. CUBAN COUNTRY SINGER CELINA GONZALEZ TO BE CROWNED QUEEN OF COUNTRY MUSIC DURING THE "GUANTANAMERA" FESTIVAL havana, December 14 (RHC)-- Renowned Cuban country singer Celina Gonzalez will be crowned the queen of country music during a festival entitled: "Guantanamera" which began on Monday in the eastern town of Guaso. The third edition of that eastern region's most important cultural event, which runs through December 18th, is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Celina Gonzalez' artistic career, the 70th anniversary of the internationally known song "La Guantanamera" and the recognition of the song's creator, Joseito Fernandez. . The festival will also include symposiums on the patrimony of the people's of the Caribbean, and libraries and their ties to the community, as well as painting contests and poetry readings. The Guantanamera Festival will also offer demonstrations of Cuban popular music and African culture and the presentation of a magazine called "The Sea and the Mountain". CUBA HAS SURVIVED AND RESISTED AND WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP SAYS THE PRESIDENT OF THE ISLAND'S PARLIAMENT. havana, December 14 (RHC)-- The President of the Cuban Parliament, Ricardo Alarcon says that the tale that Cuba was a Soviet satellite is over and that the Cuban Revolution has demonstrated that it can survive, resist and develop without the support of the former socialist nations. In an interview in Sunday's Juventud Rebelde newspaper, Alarcon stressed that Cuba has inserted itself into today's world with a project that has demonstrated its viability after 40 years, 10 of them without the existence of the socialist camp. Referring to last week's 7th Congress of the Young Communist League in which he participated, the President of the Cuban Parliament noted that important debates were held among the participants, many of whom will travel to Haiti to work as doctors. Alarcon, referring to Washington's anti-Cuba policy told Cuba's Juventud Rebelde newspaper on Sunday, that for four decades Cubans have been submitted to a diabolic plan which has attempted to spiritually and ideologically destroy the Cuban Revolution, CUBAN HEALTH AUTHORITIES INVESTING 2.5 MILLION DOLLARS TO FIGHT THE AEDES AEGYPTI MOSQUITO Havana, December 14 (RHC)-- Cuban health authorities have announced that the country is investing 2.5 million dollars to eliminate the deadly Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which is a carrier of dengue fever. In statements to Cuba's Radio Rebelde, the island's Health Minister, Carlos Dotres characterized the infection spread by the insect as a the most serious health problem in Havana with a population of 2.2 million people. Dengue was eradicated in Cuba in the early 1980's after an epidemic broke out on the island killing 150 people, mainly children and the elderly, but the disease reappeared in eastern Santiago de Cuba last year. Despite the island's economic crisis, said Health Minister Dotres, the Cuban government has not cut its health care budget nor has it closed down a single hospital or reduced scientific research. Cuban health indices continue to be among the best in the world, with an infant mortality rate of 7.2 per one thousand live births, with one doctor for every 176 inhabitants in a country of 11 million people. THE HEATH MINISTER OF SAO TOME AND PRINCIPE IS VISITING THE ISLAND Havana, December 14 (RHC)-- The Health Minister of Sao Tome and Principe, Dr. Eduardo do Carmo Ferreira, has requested Cuba's assistance in the training of human resources, due to the current crisis of qualified specialists that is affecting that country. The African leader, who is currently visiting the island, said that he considers the Cuban health system to be a good example for his country to follow and he pointed out that Cuba is one of the few developing nations where special attention is given to health care. There are currently five Cuban health professionals working as advisors in that subsarahan African nation, while dozens of students from Sao Tome and Principe are studying medicine on the island. Sao Tome and Principe, with close to a million inhabitants and an economy based on tourism, has a serious health problems including a high rate of malaria and other epidemics. The Sao Tome and Principe Health Minister is scheduled to visit Cuban health institutions including the Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Center and the Carlos Finlay Institute.
