Following the official welcoming ceremony at the Palace of the Revolution, the African head of state and his accompanying delegation met with Cuban officials to discuss issues of bilateral interest. The president of Cape Verde is on a three-day visit to the island and will tour places of scientific and economic interest. Cuba and Cape Verde signed a reciprocal accord on the promotion and protection of investments last year and are currently working on improving bilateral cooperation in the areas of finances, tourism and culture. CUBAN PARLIAMENT PRESIDENT RICARDO ALARCON CALLS ON DEPUTIES AND DELEGATES TO EXPAND THEIR WORK Las Tunas, April 14(RHC)-- Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon called on the deputies and delegates of the Provincial and National Assembly to increase their socio- economic and political work in their respective territories. Participating in a meeting in eastern Las Tunas province, Alarcon said that it is of utmost importance for the people to maintain close ties with their representatives. The president of Cuba's National Assembly stressed the need to hold more meetings where the representatives report back to the people -- letting them know what they have been able to resolve in the community. He pointed to the importance of everyone's participation in solving community problems. CUBA WILL HOST THE THIRD CONGRESS OF CARIBBEAN DOCTORS Havana, April 14(RHC)-- Cuba will be the site of the Third Congress of the Association of Caribbean Doctors, which will be dedicated to workers health. The meeting will gather doctors, paramedics, dentists and other health specialists from over 20 countries. Participants will discuss job-related hazards, physical, chemical and biological contamination, as well as safety issues that could contribute to disease, accidents and premature-aging. The director of the health workers group from the Cuban Health Ministry, Maria Elena Reyes, pointed out that one hundred per cent of the work places that have environmental risks in Cuba have a doctor and nurse that directly treat the workers. According to the health expert, about 45 percent of Cuban work places have a family doctor and nurse at the work site. In addition, Cuba's health care system offers free medical care to the entire population. PARLATINO'S WOMENS COMMISSION CONDEMNS WASHINGTON'S BLOCKADE AGAINST CUBA Havana, April 14(RHC)-- The Women's Commission of the Latin American Parliament -- PARLATINO -- has condemned Washington's blockade against Cuba during a working session in Havana. Nicaraguan legislator, Xanthis Suarez, said that PARLATINO reiterated its rejection of the Helms-Burton Law and demanded that the U.S. Congress repeal the anti-Cuban law, which not only tightens the U.S. blockade against the island but also punishes third nations doing business with Cuba. Participants at the meeting discussed issues of mutual interest as well as their participation in the International Conference of Solidarity Among Women, which kicked off Monday in the Cuban capital with the participation of over two thousand women. CHINESE TRADE UNION DELEGATION VISITS THE ISLAND Havana, April 14(RHC)-- A delegation from China's National Union Federation is in Cuba for a six-day, friendly visit aimed at strengthening ties between both nations. The Chinese delegation is headed by Zhang Dinjua, vice president of the organization. The Chinese delegation is expected to meet with the leadership of the Federation of Cuban Workers -- the CTC -- and visit places of economic, tourist and social interest. ARGENTINEAN BUSINESS DELEGATION VISITS CUBA Havana, April 14(RHC)-- An Argentinean business delegation from the province of Cordoba met with their Cuban counterparts on Monday in Havana. The Argentinean delegation is in Cuba exploring business opportunities on the island. The Governor of Cordoba, Ramon Mestre, pointed out the need to strengthen bilateral ties between both nations. Representatives from 13 companies based in the Argentinean province of Cordoba make up the delegation. They are from the construction, food and steel industries, as well as the agricultural sector. Argentina represents ten percent of Cuba's trade with Latin America and the Caribbean.
