According to Armando Hart, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, "that date commemorates the glorious efforts of the Cuban people in their struggle against the Batista dictatorship." During the ceremony, which took place in the colonial section of Old Havana, Hart talked about the unity of the Cuban people which, he said, was finally reached in 1953 with the attack on the Moncada Garrison in eastern Santiago de Cuba. The Cuban official pointed out that it was clear for the Cuban people that "armed struggle, the July 26th program and the leadership of Fidel Castro were fundamental for the triumph of the Cuban Revolution." BAD WEATHER PREVENTS CUBAN SINGER/SONGWRITER PABLO MILANES FROM PREFORMING IN THE CHILEAN CAPITAL Santiago de Chile, April 10(RHC)-- Bad weather in the Chilean capital prevented Cuban singer/songwriter Pablo Milanes from preforming Thursday evening at the National Stadium. After a 26-year absence, Milanes was scheduled to open his Chilean tour last night at Santiago's outdoor stadium but heavy rains forced authorities to cancel the concert. The promoters in charge of the show said that Pablo Milanes will preform in Santiago de Chile after ending his other tour commitments in several cities of the South American nation. COLLOQUIUM ON ERNESTO CHE GUEVARA SCHEDULED FOR HAVANA Havana, April 10(RHC)-- A colloquium entitled "From Africa to Higuera: The Living Thought of Che" will take place from the 20th to the 24th in the Africa House. According to the event's sponsors, the colloquium will look at important aspects in the life and work of the Heroic Guerrilla on the 70th anniversary of his birth. Friends, researchers and fellow rebels of the legendary guerrilla fighter will participate in the colloquium. CUBAN SCIENTIST REPORTS ON VACCINE DEVELOPMENT AT THIRD IBEROAMERICAN WOMEN'S ENCOUNTER ON COMMUNICATIONS Havana, April 10(RHC)-- Cuban scientists have presented so far this year a total of 27 clinical trials for vaccine formulas. The announcement was made by the Director of Havana's Finlay Institute, Concepcion Campa, during the Third Iberoamerican Women's Encounter on Communications taking place in the Cuban capital with the participation of women from 13 nations. The Cuban scientist said that Cuba has commercialized over 40 million doses of anti-meningitis vaccine in Latin America alone. Concepcion Campa, who headed the discovery of the anti-meningitis Type B vaccine, said the advances in the field are due to the Cuban Revolution's achievements in health care. Participants at the conference learned that nearly 66 percent of the scientific and technical workforce in Cuba is made up of women. ARGENTINEAN FOREIGN MINISTRY OFFICIAL VISITS THE ISLAND Havana, April 10(RHC)-- The Director for Central America and the Caribbean of the Argentinean Foreign Ministry Arturo Osorio is in Cuba to promote the development of bilateral relations with the island. Osorio, who is heading the Argentinean delegation, will meet with Cuban Foreign Ministry, Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation officials.
