REVERBERATIONS STILL SHAKE LATIN AMERICA AND THE WORLD Havana, July 15(RHC)-- This morning's edition of the daily newspaper Granma is dedicated to the memory of Heroic Guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara -- with photos of the excavation site in Bolivia, interviews with the Cuban forensic experts who discovered Che's remains and a montage of photos showing the simple military ceremony held this past Saturday here in Havana. The interview with Jorge Gonzalez, the head of the Cuban anthropological team, gave details of the search for the skeletal remains. Tuesday's edition of Granma featured specific accounts of the exhumation of Che and his comrades -- how the team discovered the remains and the painstaking care given to their preservation and the intricate examination to make a positive identification of each bone. Granma also re-printed the entire text of the speech delivered by Aleida Guevara March, Che's daughter, who last saw her father when she was a small child. Speaking on behalf of the families of the three other Cuban internationalist guerrilla who were discovered with Che in a common grave, Che's daughter presented the remains to the people and to President Fidel Castro, who in her words "so nobly represents the Cuban people." Today's edition of the newspaper also gave ample coverage to the international reverberations surrounding the discovery and repatriation of the remains. The Bolivian daily "Ultima Hora," published in La Paz, the capital, ran a banner, front- page headline on Monday -- while news agencies reported that hundreds of Bolivians have begun making pilgrimages to the site where the remains were exhumed. NEW ROUND OF MIGRATORY TALKS BETWEEN CUBA AND U.S. SET FOR WEDNESDAY New York City, July 15(RHC)-- Cuba and the United States will begin a new round of migration talks tomorrow in New York City. The head of the Cuban delegation to the talks, Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon, arrived in New York City over the weekend. This will be the seventh round of talks -- which take place periodically between Cuba and the United States -- to discuss the fulfillment of migratory agreements signed between the two countries in September 1994 and May 1995. Just last week, U.S. Coast Guard authorities returned two groups of illegal Cuban immigrants who had attempted to enter the United States. Since the implementation of the accords, more than 500 Cubans have been returned to the island, one of the stipulations of the bilateral agreements. Preparing for the next round of migratory talks with U.S. officials, Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon met with U.S. congressional representative Jose Serrano. Alarcon and the Puerto Rican-born representative of New York discussed the upcoming talks which will get underway tomorrow at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. The Cuban parliament president and Representative Serrano also talked about the package of anti-Cuba legislation which is working its way through the U.S. Congress -- designed to tighten the Helms-Burton Law. They also discussed a bill that was recently introduced on Capital Hill, which will eliminate restrictions on selling food and medicines -- currently prohibited by the U.S. blockade against the island. Taking part in the meeting were Fernando Remirez de Estenoz, head of the Cuban Interests Section in Washington and Bruno Rodriguez, Cuba's Ambassador to the United Nations. Tuesday morning, Ricardo Alarcon met with journalists from the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. The television news network CNN interviewed the Cuban Parliament President late Tuesday afternoon. OSPAAAL IN MADRID SENDS MESSAGE OF SOLIDARITY TO CUBA Madrid, July 15(RHC)-- In Spain, the Madrid office of the Organization of Solidarity with the Peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America -- OSPAAAL -- sent a message of solidarity to the Cuban people, addressed to Foreign Minister Roberto Robaina. The message condemns the latest acts of terrorism committed against the Revolution, referring to the two bomb explosions at hotels in downtown Havana over the weekend. The Spanish branch of OSPAAAL affirmed that the terrorist attacks "clearly demonstrate the real nature of those who work to against the revolutionary process in Cuba." The solidarity message points out that the Cuban people "have shown determination and perseverance in overcoming the inhumane blockade imposed on the island by the United States for more than 30 years." The note from the Organization of Solidarity with the Peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America in Madrid concluded by encouraging the Cuban people to continue defending their independence and sovereignty at all costs. CUBAN PRESIDENT FIDEL CASTRO SENDS MESSAGE OF PRAISE TO TEACHERS AT THE END OF THE PRESENT SCHOOL YEAR Havana, July 15(RHC)-- Cuban President Fidel Castro has sent a message of recognition to the island's educators for their devotion and their achievements, despite the economic constraints of the Special Period. The message was sent to the teacher's 8th Annual Trade Union Congress held over the weekend in Havana. The Cuban leader reiterated that the country "has confidence in its teachers and their responsibility to the people." Trade union officials from Spain, Mexico, Portugal, Martinique and Puerto Rico were also present at the Congress. They expressed their solidarity with the Cuban people and demanded an end to the U.S. blockade of the island. The Congress' final declaration points out the role played by teachers and educators in analyzing their setbacks and achievements. Fidel's open letter also called on all of union workers to "be more disciplined and remain faithful to the principles of the Revolution." CUBAN SINGER-SONG WRITER PABLO MILANES ACCLAIMED IN EL SALVADOR San Salvador, July 15(RHC)-- Five thousand Salvadorans welcomed Cuban singer-song writer Pablo Milanes during a two- hour concert in San Salvador, the Salvadoran capital, over the weekend. JOSE MARTI BRIGADE FROM EUROPE ARRIVES ON THE ISLAND Havana, July 15(RHC)-- The President of the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association, Alfred Kolbacher, says that the survival of the Cuban Revolution is the worst defeat the United States has suffered following Vietnam. Kolbacher made the statement during a rally to welcome the latest contingent of Europe's Jose Marti Brigade, made up of 250 people from 17 European countries. Upon welcoming the brigadistas, the Vice-President of ICAP -- the Cuban Institute of Friendship Among the Peoples -- Ricardo Rodriguez, noted that the Jose Marti Brigades have been traveling to Cuba since 1973, to contribute to the development of the economy and to take a first-hand look at life on the island.
