In Bolivia, the three main dailies carried banner headlines: "Adios Che" -- "Mission Completed" -- and "Fidel Receives Che with Full Honors." The Venezuelan daily "El Nacional" dedicated an entire page to the return of Che's remains, publishing comments by Bolivians and Cubans who knew Ernesto Che Guevara. In Spain, the dailies "El Pais" and "El Cotidiano" carried the headlines of Che's return to Cuba, as well as biographical details on the life and death of the Heroic Guerrilla. Radio and television news broadcasts throughout Latin America also gave ample coverage to the events surrounding the identification of the Argentinean-born guerrilla leader's remains in Bolivia and their return to his adopted-homeland. INVESTIGATION INTO COMMERCIAL AIRLINE TRAGEDY CONTINUES Santiago de Cuba, July 14(RHC)-- The Cuban Civil Aviation Institute is continuing the investigation into last Friday's crash of a commercial airliner off the coast of Santiago de Cuba. A newly-named, 40-member commission is currently studying the incident -- while drivers continue the search for victims. Forty-four passengers and crew members lost their lives in the tragedy, which occurred just two minutes after taking off from Santiago de Cuba. The plane, Flight 787, crashed into the sea, 20 miles from the airport. There were no survivors. Twenty-four Cuban men, 11 women and a 9 year-old-girl were among the victims -- as were six Spaniards and two Brazilians. Divers are also searching for the plane's Black Box, which will help them determine the cause of the tragic incident. CUBA VS. UNITED STATES BASEBALL GAME IS CALLED-OFF Havana, July 14(RHC)-- The Cuban Sports Institute announced today that given the recent bombings at two hotels in Havana and other anti-Cuba provocations, it has decided to cancel the annual baseball tournament between Cuba and the United States. An official note from the Sports Institute, published in this morning's "Trabajadores" newspaper, stated that groups financed by right-wing elements in Miami had prepared several schemes to harass the Cuban baseball team during their stay in the U.S. Given the lack of security for the team during the games, which were scheduled to take place in a number of U.S. cities, it was decided to cancel the tournament. The note in today's "Trabajadores" added that in addition to the threats against their physical well-being, attempts to pressure players to desert have been common in the past and that all indications pointed to exerted efforts in this regard. The Cuban Sports Institute mentioned numerous threats that have been received by the players and, after studying all aspects of the situation, made the decision to not subject the team to such harassment and physical risk. FIRST DELEGATES TO THE 14TH WORLD FESTIVAL OF YOUTH AND STUDENTS ARRIVE IN CUBA Havana, July 14(RHC)-- The first delegates to the 14th World Festival of Youth and Students are now in Cuba! The work brigade is part of Canada's 135-member delegation to the 14th World Festival of Youth and Students. The brigadistas from Quebec bring to 200 the number of young people who came in advance for the Festival to do voluntary stints in the fields. Cuba is also host of an International Work Festival that gathers together three large international brigades: Puerto Rico's Rius Rivera Brigade, Europe's Jose Marti Brigade and the U.S. Venceremos Brigade. Most brigadistas will stay on the island as part of their nations' delegations to the youth event. ENCOUNTER ON NEOLIBERALISM AND GLOBALIZATION ATTRACTS OVERWHELMING INTERNATIONAL INTEREST Havana, July 14(RHC)-- More than 700 delegates from 40 countries will take part in the International Encounter on Globalization -- scheduled to take place here in Havana in early August. Latin America, the Caribbean, the United States and Canada are bringing the largest delegations with an estimated 450 delegates, while Europe is sending more than 120 union representatives. Asia, Africa and the Middle East are reportedly sending more than 50 participants. Several regional and international organizations have also expressed interest in attending the encounter. The list of participants is expected to grow over the next few days.
