According to this morning's edition of the daily Granma, the leader of this terrorist group -- Andres Nazario Sargent -- has taken responsibility for the bombings carried out at the Capri and the Hotel Nacional on July 12th. While Alpha-66 has not claimed responsibility for the most recent hotel explosion which took place on Monday, August 4th at the Melia-Cohiba, the newspaper reports that the Cuban government has evidence that the terrorist action, like the others, was carried out by individuals based in the United States and that the explosive devices used were also manufactured in the U.S. Another terrorist action was carried out against the offices of a Cuban tourist company in Nassau, the Bahamas. A small explosion at the offices of Havanatur on Monday caused only minor damage. There were no injuries. CUBAN FOREIGN MINISTER ROBERTO ROBAINA MEETS WITH WORLD LEADERS IN BOLIVIA La Paz, August 6(RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Roberto Robaina, in La Paz for the swearing-in of Bolivian President Hugo Banzer, met today with numerous leaders attending the inauguration. Havana, August 6(RHC)-- While the 14th World Festival of Youth and Students has officially come to an end, you'll still see large numbers of `former-delegates' on the streets of the Cuban capital -- extending their stay for a few more days. Yesterday, more than 3000 participants of the Youth Festival visited Havana's Lenin Park, EXPOCUBA Exhibit Halls, the Botanical Garden and the National Zoo during the Festival's last full-day of activities. The delegates toured the four facilities, where they had the chance to exchange views and experiences on how to protect the environment. Both Mexican and Brazilian delegates came out in favor of increasing environmental education in order to expand environmental protection and sustainable development in rural and urban communities. They also urged their respective governments to stop the arms race in order to preserve the environment and to establish programs that ensure a safer future for the planet. BRAZILIAN ARCHITECT OSCAR NIEMEYER PLANS MONUMENT AGAINST WASHINGTON'S BLOCKADE OF CUBA Havana, August 6(RHC)-- Delegates who attended the 14th World Festival of Youth and Students dedicated the land where a monument against Washington's blockade of Cuba will be erected by famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemayer. The outstanding architect is the designer of Brazilia, the Brazilian capital. The monument will be located at the intersection of Calzada and The Malecon, right in front of the U.S. Interests Section in Havana. Niemeyer's project consists of a big, concrete ring -- which represents the blockade -- and a giant, metal Cuban flag coming out of the ring, fluttering in the wind. In order to finance the monument, Brazilian youth are heading an international drive to raise some 100,000 dollars. At yesterday's ceremony, Brazilian delegation member Elena Sroulevich said that the monument "is not only a symbol of the Cuban people's heroic struggle against Washington's blockade, but also an expression of support for the Cuban Revolution." On hand at the ground-breaking ceremony: the leader of Cuba's Young Communist League, Victoria Velazquez; the Director of the Office dedicated to Cuban Hero Jose Marti and former- Culture Minister Armando Hart, as well as the President of the island's Bella Arts Council, Margarita Ruiz. CUBAN NOVELIST DORA ALONSO RECEIVES WORLD LITERATURE PRIZE Havana, August 6(RHC)-- Cuban writer Dora Alonso has been awarded the Jose Marti World Literature Prize, granted by Costa Rica's Culture Ministry and that country's San Judas University. The award recognizes and promotes authors of children's literature. The prize was also bestowed upon Fernando Alonso from Spain, Eckert Horst Emmanuel of Germany and Costa Rica's Joaquin Gutierrez. The 87-year old writer told Granma newspaper she was happy -- not only because it was an important international award, "but because it is named after Cuban National Hero Jose Marti." [c] 1997.
