IN HAVANA ALONE, 12 THOUSAND FAMILIES VOLUNTEER TO HOST
DELEGATES TO THE 14TH WORLD FESTIVAL OF YOUTH AND STUDENTS

Havana, April 7(RHC)-- The spirit of the 14th World Festival
of Youth and Students has caught on in Havana. The city's
Mayor, Conrado Martinez Corona, expressed his appreciation for
the gesture of solidarity by his fellow Habaneros in offering
their homes to delegates. A total of 12,000 have volunteered
to host foreign delegates to the Festival.

In related news, Ecuador has brought to 54 the number of
National Preparatory Committees organized for the 14th World
Festival of Youth and Students. Representatives from more
than 20 youth organizations attended a ceremony in which young
Ecuadorans reaffirmed their solidarity with Cuba.

Participants in the meeting agreed to set up a Cuba Solidarity
Committee to support the Cuban people and to fight the U.S.
blockade against the island. During the ceremony, a Social
Welfare Ministry official announced that Ecuadoran President
Fabian Alarcon had offered his support to the local
committee's activities in preparation for the summer youth
event.

The 14th World Festival of Youth and Students will take place
from July 28th through August 5th under the slogan "For Anti-
Imperialist Solidarity, Peace and Friendship." During the
festival, close to 10,000 young people from all over the world
will discuss issues affecting youth and humanity. They'll
debate topics like disarmament, the environment, neoliberalism
and social and political issues. The gathering is also
dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the death in combat of
guerilla Ernesto Che Guevara in Bolivia.

THE FIRST LATIN AMERICAN UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT ON THE WORKS OF
ERNESTO CHE GUEVARA IS OFFICIALLY INAUGURATED IN BUENOS AIRES

Buenos Aires, April 7(RHC)-- The first university department
dealing with the works and thought of Ernesto Che Guevara was
opened in the Argentinean capital of Buenos Aires over
the weekend. Che's political, economic and philosophical
thinking will be the object of study in the department. Over
a thousand guests crowded into the classroom in the Social
Sciences Faculty in Buenos Aires where the first class on the
Heroic Guerrilla was taught. The Department's curriculum
includes 13 conferences open to the public. Among the issues
discussed will be the historical antecedents of the Cuban
Revolution and the Theory and Struggle Against Imperialism.

Meanwhile, The Brazilian organization "No More Torture"
posthumously granted the "Chico Mendez Award" to the late
Argentinean-Cuban guerrilla, Ernesto Che Guevara. The
distinction, which bears the name of murdered Brazilian union
leader, Chico Mendez, was created to pay tribute to
independence fighters, human rights activists and people who
have struggled against violence. Cuban Consul in Brazil,
Fermin Rodriguez, accepted the order on behalf of Che
Guevara's family. Ten Latin American figures and institutions
have received the award so far.

THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL BALLET CONTEST IN HAVANA

Havana, April 7(RHC)-- The main prizes in Havana's Third

dancers from Colombia in the same category. Italy won silver.

COLOMBIAN ARTISTS TO EXPAND RELATIONS WITH CUBA

Havana, April 7(RHC)-- A group of Colombian artists are
expected Monday in Havana to expand cultural relations with
Havana. The visit also includes the development of a project
that explores the cultural roots of Colombia and Cuba. As
part of the cultural project, Colombian artists will display
their works at an exhibit in Havana. The artists will show
videos, perform in musical shows and exchange ideas with their
