CUBANS MARK 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE YOUNG COMMUNIST LEAGUE AND
36TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE JOSE MARTI PIONEERS ORGANIZATION.

Havana, April 4th(RHC)--  Cuban youth and children celebrated island
wide the 35th anniversary of the Cuban Young Communist League and the
36th anniversary of the Jose Marti Pioneers Organization.  In today's
edition, Granma newspaper publishes a letter from  Defense Minister, Raul
Castro to the youth organization.  In his letter,the Cuban leader tells
Cuban youth how deeply the nation appreciates the love and commitment
they have shown in the fight against difficulties and added that with
their attitude they are showing they are true recipients of the legacy
handed down by previous generations of young revolutionary Cubans.

Thursday evening, the central province of Ciego de Avila hosted a
national rally to mark the occasion.  The province was chosen to host the
rally due to the remarkable achievements of local youth and pioneers
organization work.  In a letter to acknowledge their winning of the
nationwide competition for the event, Cuban president Fidel Castro
praised efforts.

Activities today were also devoted to fund raising for the World Festival
of Youth and Students that will take place on the island July 28th
through August 5th.  Juan Contino Aslam, National Coordinator of  the
Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, presented the youth
organization, a check for 350 thousand dollars collected in neighborhoods
and rural communities by the grassroots organization.


SOUTH AFRICAN EDUCATION MINISTER BEGINS TOUR OF THE ISLAND.

Havana, April 4th(RHC)--  South African Education Minister, Sibusico
Bengu, began  a five-day official visit to Cuba Friday.  Minister Bengu
is due to meet with his Cuban counterpart, Luis Ignacio Gomez and will
sign an agreement to strengthen relations in the field.
The South African minister will also hold talks with Cuban Higher
Education Minister, Fernando Vecino Alegret and will tour educational
facilities to get to know Cuba's education system.

The two countries have maintained increasing bilateral exchanges since
they established diplomatic relations in 1994.  They include the visit to
South Africa of Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Robaina, and
that of his South African counterpart, Alfredo Nzo, to Cuba.

The health care sector is an important area of cooperation between Cuba
and South Africa as a result more than 3 hundred Cuban doctors are now
providing services in that African nation.



ANDALUSIA'S PRESIDENT ADVOCATES FOR STRENGTHENING RELATIONS
WITH CUBA.

Havana, April 4th(RHC)--  The president of the Spanish autonomous
region of Andalusia, Manuel Chavez, says he wants to expand exchanges
with Cuba.  Chavez, who is currently visiting the island, stressed that
Spain should normalize relations with Cuba, and he criticized
Washington's blockade against Cuba and the Helms-Burton law.

Chavez met on Thursday with Cuban Parliament President, Ricardo
Alarcon and with First Deputy Foreign Minister, Jorge Bolanos.  The
President of Andalusia recalled that Spain is Cuba's largest trade and
economic partner of the European Union, adding that Spain is one of the
countries with the most investments in Cuba.

The Spanish official said that his country should not align itself with US
positions toward Cuba, but rather, should distance itself from Washington. 
Friday Chavez toured colonial Havana, and houses along the sea front
drive which are being repaired with financial support from Andalusia. 
That aid mounts to 14 million dollars and also includes the island's
agrarian and environmental sectors.


UP COMING IBEROAMERICAN CULTURE FAIR WILL  PAY HOMAGE TO
GALICIA IN SPAIN.

Havana, April 4th(RHC)--  The 5th Iberoamerican Fair of Cuban Culture
will be held October 24th thru the 30th in the eastern province of
Holguin.  This time around, the fair will be dedicated to the autonomous
Spanish region of Galicia, and according to Cuban culture director,Fidel
Troya, the objective will be to strengthen friendship between thepeoples
of Galicia and Cuba.

Troya said that contacts are being made with the head of Galicia's local
government, Manuel Fraga, to confirm his participation int he fair, as well
as that of other authorities from that Spanish autonomous region.
